Art is a journey not a destination. Art is a process not a product. Art is a conception not a craft. The artist I'd like to talk about is Simon Starling. Mary talked about him in the end of the lecture. Simon Starling is a conceptual artist in UK. He born in Epsom in 1967 and won the Turner Prize in 2005. He lives in Copenhagen and Berlin.
Many of his works circle back on himself, taking an idea on a journey that ends at its point of origin. Simon Starling's HYDROGEN-POWERED BICYCLE was among the finalists for 2005 Turner Prize and won the prize.
He seems to have a special love for bicycles. Also he gets lots of generate ideas from bicycles.
However, my favorite is Metamorphology.
The fundamental principles of Starling's artwork: the transformative potential of art, or transformation as art. He deconstructed the boat and burnt it. It is exactly the same way as art. Breaking old concepts and reconstruct new things. Getting lost and finding new world. This is the meaning of creativity. Unlike the other conceptual artists who strove for a language-based dematerialized art, for Simons' object is always from the art's heart.
